Using the PS2 Game Console with the Cable Modem

The Sony Playstation 2 has the ability to connect to the Internet allowing for interactive gaming with other Internet users. Insight Broadband does allow you to connect your PS2 game console to the cable modem and use this feature. It is important that the following conditions be understood prior to connecting your PS2 to the Insight Broadband high-speed Internet service.

Insight Broadband provides only the Internet access for the PS2 to connect to specialized online PS2 game servers. Insight Broadband does not host or control the online PS2 game servers, and is not responsible for issues related to connectivity issues when attempting to connect to any PS2 game server. Insight Broadband is providing access to our high-speed Internet network, and can only provide support for matters related to general Internet connectivity.

As the Sony Playstation 2 is equipment that is not provided by Insight Broadband, you will need to contact Sony or your retailer for support regarding any technical problems that arise outside of general Internet connectivity issues.

A hub is needed to connect both a PS2 and a computer to the cable modem. Insight Broadband does not provide support for any form of networking equipment, such as hubs or routers. If you wish to use a hub, you will need to acquire one from a retailer or manufacturer, as this is equipment that is not available from Insight Broadband.

It is recommended that routers NOT be used in conjunction with using the PS2 online. Sony reports a number of gaming issues when the PS2 is connected to a router.

Steps for Connecting your PS2 to the Insight Broadband High-Speed Internet Service

It is recommended that you print out the following instructions in color as the Sony Playstation 2 backgrounds in the setup screens are very dark, and may not be able to print properly when printed in black and white.

1. Make sure that the networking cable (or Ethernet cable) is NOT connected to the back of the PS2 game console.

2. Load the Network Adapter Start-up Disk. This is provided with the PS2 Ethernet adapter. Select ISP Setup from the screen.

5. A screen appears notifying that SCEA (a Sony company) is not affiliated with our Internet service. Press the X button on the PS2 game pad.

11. Choose Automatic Settings on the next screen.

15. At this point, call your local Insight Broadband Customer Care office, so we may assist you by creating your online account. We will at this point assist you with the remainder of your PS2 online configuration. An additional IP address will be required to operate the PS2 on the Insight Broadband service, and your local Insight Broadband office will notify you of the extra charges involved.

16. Your Insight Broadband representative will ask you for the Hardware MAC Address information shown on the screen shot below. Your Hardware MAC Address will be different than the one displayed below, please make sure to have your own information ready.
