Insight Communications Announces Plans For High-Speed Internet Transition
New York – January 29, 2002 –
Insight Communications (Nasdaq: ICCI) announced today its plans to transition its high-speed Internet customers from the @Home network to its own regional network.
This transition process will begin in early February in order to complete the transfer of approximately 75,000 customers prior to February 28, the date when the @Home network is scheduled to go dark. Insight's new broadband Internet service, which will be branded "Insightbb.com," is the first step toward the company's ultimate goal of offering multiple high-speed Internet Service Providers on its network.
When customers are transitioned to the new network, the domain name on their e-mail addresses will change from "@home.com" to "@Insightbb.com." The login names from current @Home addresses will remain unchanged and will be transitioned to the new Insight address. For example, a current e-mail address of "john.doe@home.com" will automatically change to "john.doe@Insightbb.com" on the date of the transition, after the customer completes the installation process. Additionally, customer e-mail will be automatically forwarded from the @Home account to the new Insight account from the date of transition through February 28, 2002.
Insight encourages customers to pay attention to their @Home e-mail accounts and U.S. Mail throughout February, as they will be notified in advance by these means regarding their specific transition dates and installation instructions for the Insightbb.com service. In order to migrate to the new service, customers will be given a URL (or web site link) in these communications so that they may complete the process online. These procedures can be completed by the customer without an Insight technician and will not only eliminate the @Home software from the computer, but will also download all necessary files for Insightbb.com. Just prior to each location's readiness for migration, customers may experience a brief outage (12 hours at most) as Insight implements the final necessary technical measures. However, the company is planning for these outages to begin at midnight on the migration dates, during low online traffic hours, in order to minimize any inconvenience to customers.
The new Insightbb.com service will continue to provide many of the services to which customers are currently accustomed, such as multiple e-mail addresses, personalized web space, news groups, and chat capabilities. Customers who remain within the Acceptable Users' Policy of the service should experience comparable speeds to that of their @Home service. Insight also stated that there will be no rate increase in the high-speed Internet service as a result of this transition.
