Insight Communications Wins CTPAA Beacon Award: National Organization Cites Insight's Young Women's Technology Fellowship as Among Nation's Best

LOUISVILLE – March 20, 2002

The Cable Television Public Affairs Association (CTPAA) has announced that Insight Communications is a winner in the 2002 Beacon Awards competition. The national competition recognizes excellence in public affairs throughout the cable industry.

Insight's Louisville system was recognized in the Education category for the ³Young Women's Technology Fellowship,² an educational initiative addressing the digital divide that Insight sponsored in partnership with Oxygen Media. Twelve Louisville-area high school girls, who may not have otherwise had such an opportunity, were selected from a competitive pool of applicants and successfully created an online magazine dedicated to social issues. In addition, each girl received free cable modem service for one year from Insight and an iMac computer from Oxygen in recognition of completing the program.

From the 420 entries received in this year's Beacon Awards competition, 80 winners were chosen by cable public affairs professionals in an extensive two-phase judging process. The overwhelming number of entries represented company initiatives implemented over the past year in the areas of community, customer, media and employee relations, as well as education and government affairs.

The winners were announced at a gala awards ceremony March 12 in Washington, D.C., during CTPAA's annual three-day conference, Forum 2002: Unifying the Message.

"Winner status is truly an outstanding achievement," said Steve Jones, Executive Director of CTPAA. ³The requirements to become a winner are more demanding than ever before. These award-winning projects reflect the cable industry's strong commitment to public affairs, as well as to quality entertainment, technological advances, and educational initiatives in communities across the country.²
