Insight Communications Announces Preliminary First Quarter Results

New York – May 02, 2002

Insight Communications, Inc (Nasdaq: ICCI) today announced preliminary financial results, highlighting solid growth across all sectors. For the quarter ended March 31, 2002, revenues are estimated at $192 million, a 10.1% increase compared to the prior year period. Revenue growth reflected 1.0% internal growth in basic customers for the quarter and an 8.7% increase in average monthly revenue per customer compared to the first quarter 2001. Average monthly revenue per customer for the quarter is estimated at $49.35, a nearly $4 increase over the prior year period as a result of strong growth in digital, high-speed data and advertising for which revenue grew 62.1%, 79.9% and 20.1%, respectively. Revenue Generating Units (RGUsÑsum of basic and digital video, high-speed data and telephone customers) are estimated at 1,689,900 as of March 31, 2002, compared to 1,540,700 as of March 31, 2001, representing an internal annual growth rate of 9.7%.

Insight also reported that it estimates operating cash flow of $82 million for the first quarter, an increase of 9.6% over the prior year period, excluding a one-time, non-recurring charge of $4 million related to Excite@Home.

The preliminary results above exclude the results of SourceSuite LLC, which will be consolidated effective January 1, 2002 as a result of the acquisition in March 2002 of its remaining 50% interest. Including the SourceSuite results, management estimates that revenues and operating cash flow for the first quarter would have increased by 10.3% and 8.9%.

"We had our best quarter in a number of years as we realize the fruits of completed rebuilds and the success of our industry-leading bundle of products," stated Michael S. Willner, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Of particular note, quarterly basic customer growth of 1% since year-end represents an extraordinary run-rate."

These results are preliminary and the company intends to announce final results for the first quarter on May 10, 2002. Management will host a conference call at 1:00 p.m. EDT to discuss these results. The conference call will be simultaneously webcast over the Internet as well. Details follow below.
