Insight and Diva Partner to Bring Video-On-Demand to Remainder of Insight Midwest Footprint
NEW YORK, NY and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – February 14, 2001 –
Insight Communications (Nasdaq: ICCI), the eighth largest cable operator in the U.S., and DIVATM, a leader in video-on-demand (VOD) solutions for the cable television industry, today announced an agreement which further extends DIVA’s VOD solution to Insight’s remaining systems in Indiana and Illinois, as well as those in Kentucky. As a result, DIVA will now be placed in front of a potential 930,000 Insight basic customers, including those already able to receive the product. The deal is the first multi-system-operator (MSO)-wide VOD deployment agreement in the cable industry, and when combined with DIVA’s additional MSO contracts, expands DIVA’s VOD reach to more than 4.5 million basic subscriber homes.
“This is a significant deal in terms of our ongoing efforts to pioneer the home entertainment experience. By expanding upon our already proven success of providing DIVA as part of our signature interactive product, Insight Digital, we are enthusiastic about the added value and leading-edge service that we are now able to bring to our other systems,” said Michael S. Willner, Insight’s President and CEO. “This MSO-wide deal with DIVA signifies Insight’s deep, ongoing commitment to our partners, and ultimately, to our customers. DIVA’s superior video-on-demand technology helps us to give Insight customers the seamless, quality service and programming they desire – anytime, day or night.”
Insight will deploy the VOD service as part of Insight Digital in its markets centered in the Midwest. It will be included in the first level of digital options, the $6.95 “Digital Gateway” service. To date, Insight has launched the VOD service in Evansville, Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; and Rockford, Illinois using DIVA’s VOD solution on the Motorola DCT 2000 set-top terminal.
"When two industry leaders like Insight Communications and DIVA work together, it is the customer who really comes out on top,” said Henk Hanselaar, President and Chief Executive Officer of DIVA. “Insight’s management team has always been a cable visionary. Their idea to make VOD the cornerstone of the digital tier is a tremendous benefit to consumers and has, therefore, become an industry-wide practice.”
