Insight, Diva Deliver Advanced Video-On-Demand Service To New Markets

NEW YORK, NY and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – November 28, 2001

DIVA™, the video-on-demand (VOD) solutions leader for the cable TV industry, and Insight Communications (NASDAQ: ICCI), the 9th largest cable operator in the United States, today announced that video-on-demand service has been launched in several additional systems in Indiana and Kentucky. In total, nearly 720,000 homes in the Kentucky cities of Covington, Lexington, and Louisville, as well as approximately 420,000 homes in the Indiana cities of Bloomington, Anderson, Lafayette and Kokomo, will ultimately receive access to VOD through DIVA’s solutions when these in-progress deployments are complete.

Insight customers in these systems will now be able to enjoy complete control over their viewing experience through VCR-like capabilities and access to new releases and library films. Customers can easily order a variety of digital content and then use their remote controls to fast-forward, rewind or pause the program. Insight is deploying the new VOD service on the Motorola DCT 2000 set-top boxes.

DIVA and Insight continue to have the industry's only MSO-wide VOD deployment agreement. Through Insight’s interactive platform, approximately 150,000 Insight Digital customers currently have access to VOD. DIVA dominates the commercially deployed VOD market, with more than 60 percent of commercially deployed VOD markets running on DIVA's solutions.

Insight and DIVA plan to launch the service next in Champaign-Urbana, IL in early December, a service area passing nearly 100,000 homes.

“DIVA is our VOD provider of choice because they offer the most robust, easy-to-use VOD software and hardware technology on the market today,” said Kim D. Kelly, Insight’s Executive Vice President, Chief Operating & Financial Officer. “Insight is dedicated to leading the industry in delivering the benefits of VOD to our customers, so it is essential for us to have a partner that is reliable and able to move quickly. DIVA allows us to offer our customers the best VOD experience, which is a critical component in our priority of deploying advanced interactive services. In addition, DIVA's advanced technology enabled a fast return on our investment of digital upgrades, and our revenue generated by VOD continues to contribute to the ongoing success of the product.”

“We are proud to work with Insight as their chosen VOD partner to drive their aggressive rollout of VOD,” said Henk Hanselaar, President and CEO of DIVA. “There is a revolution happening in the way we enjoy home entertainment – one that delivers complete choice and control into the hands of consumers – and we are excited to continue working with Insight to offer video-on-demand in homes across the country.”

DIVA and Insight are among the companies leading the trend to deliver more control of home entertainment to consumers through VOD solutions provided via cable TV. According to a report from Forrester Research, the on-demand TV industry will account for 40 percent of cable viewers’ TV time by 2006, generating $7.8 billion in additional revenues for cable operators.
